Dr Foster in the Daily Mirror
Dr Foster Intelligence provided some information on measures of obesity to the ITV News team making a feature on the issue. They needed to find out the town in Britain with the most registered obese people. Our initial response was to suggest there is no single measure of obesity but that the method we felt most robust put Doncaster PCT at the top of the pile.

Dr Foster in the Mail on Sunday
The Dr Foster website, www.drfosterhealth.co.uk/inequalities was launched on the evening of Wednesday 10 June in support of the groundbreaking report, The Intelligent Board: Commissioning to reduce inequalities. It was picked up by the Mail on Sunday who ran with the headline, ‘Go online for your PCT’s health status’.

Essex paper gives PET the thumbs up
‘Patients give thumbs up to hospital’ is the upbeat message from the Essex Evening Echo. Dr Foster’s Patient Experience Tracker system was used by Southend Hospital to measure levels of satisfaction with the cleanliness of the hospital as well as other issues.

Dr Foster in the British Medical Journal
The British Medical Journal took note of the launch of the Hellenic Project, a healthcare comparison project for the independent hospital sector. The project is being run as a partnership between Dr Foster, the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services and the NHS Partners Network.

Dr Foster in the Mail on Sunday
Barney Calman, of the Mail on Sunday wrote a detailed feature of one surgeon’s mission to fit gastric bands as way of tackling obesity. The surgeon’s name is Mr. Super, hence the title of the article – ‘Superman and his one-man fight against the flab’.

Dr Foster in the Independent
On the back of the Mid Staffordshire Hospital scandal, the Independent reported that Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Health, would publish ‘death rates’ for every hospital in England. The figures would appear on the NHS Choices website and represent a ‘new level of transparency’ in the NHS. Of course Dr Foster has been publishing Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratios (HSMRs) in our Hospital Guide since 2001.

Clacton Gazette recognises Dr Foster work on diabetes
‘Battling the diabetes timebomb’ is the way the Clacton Gazette sees NHS North East Essex’s work with Dr Foster’s social marketing team. The Gazette lists diabetes as one of the most challenging health problems facing the country today.

Dr Foster in the Sunday Telegraph
As part of the Sunday Telegraph’s ‘Heal our Hospitals’ campaign they looked into waiting times for hip fractures, figures produced by Dr Foster. The title read, ‘Hospitals ‘fail’ broken hip patients.

Dr Foster reveals link between Nursing levels and patient care
Dr Foster’s latest research as reported in the Nursing Times (31 March 2009) reveals the extent to which nursing staff levels can impact on patient mortality rates in England’s hospitals. The report shows there are lower mortality rates and shorter hospital stays in acute trusts that have more nurses per bed.
