Essex paper gives PET the thumbs up 15 June 2009

‘Patients give thumbs up to hospital’ is the upbeat message from the Essex Evening Echo. Dr Foster’s Patient Experience Tracker system was used by Southend Hospital to measure levels of satisfaction with the cleanliness of the hospital as well as other issues.

Hospital Spokesperson Pat Stone was quoted as saying, “We are very pleased results so far show more than 90% of patients were happy with the level of cleanliness, staff hand washing and assistance with eating their meals.” Pat goes on to say, “The Patient Experience Tracker was introduced as part of our ongoing drive to improve our patient’s experience of their stay in Southend Hospital.”

The article describes just how easy the handheld devices are to use, with their push button responses, instant feedback and pre-programmed questions. Other areas where PET has been used, according to the Echo, is to ask patients about their experiences with catering and communication with doctors and nurses.

Any concerns raised are brought up at a senior and ward level in an attempt to tackle any problems quickly and succinctly.
