Jake joined Dr Foster in 2003 to help provide a growing number of NHS organisations with benchmarks of clinical and managerial quality as well as research and communication services to inform patient choice. He has been instrumental in growing the business from a 12-strong organisation to nearly 200 staff in five years with nearly three quarters of English hospitals and more than half of Primary Care Trusts as customers of Dr Foster.

He is a non executive director of Ashley House plc, a company that provides infrastructure and other services to primary care providers and sits on the board of Guidestar Data Services a not-for-profit company established to provide comparators of charity performance for the public, the public sectors and donors.

Until January 2003, he was managing director of emap public sector management, a publishing and events business which publishes the Health Service Journal. He is a frequent presenter and contributor as a journalist and commentator on the BBC and in the national media.
