The recent investigation into care at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust sparked interest from a number of trusts asking about their own mortality data. One of the key findings of the report stated that there was a need for:
"...Trusts to be able to get access to timely and reliable information on comparative mortality and other outcomes and for trusts to conduct objective and robust reviews of mortality rates and individual cases."
In response to this, NHS South West has partnered with Dr Foster Intelligence and is holding this seminar to help providers and commissioners understand variations in hospital mortality and to explore the methodologies used. The event is also an opportunity for Directors of Commissioning, Medical Directors and other relevant parties to share some best practice.
